This marked the start of a new Christmas tradition in the Quinlan home! Last summer, I got tired of looking at the artificial trees that still weren't up in the attic from the Christmas before. So, I donated them to a local charity (with the strong support of Pablo -- our summer guest who really loves to organize) and started looking forward to chopping down a fresh tree for our holiday!
There is a really nice tree farm situated between our home and the RV. We spent some time at the RV this weekend and, on the way home, spent some time at the tree farm.
Gavers had fallen asleep in the car ... so he was slow to get in the spirit. But, the rest of us were pretty excited.
First, we hopped aboard the hay ride....
Then, we snagged our saw, measuring stick, and tree-spotting eyes and went out on our search for the Quinlan Christmas Tree.
Liam wanted all of the small ones that were, I think, planted last year to replace all the trees chosen then. Owen wanted a lot of the too big ones. But, Gerard spotted the one that was just right. Not too big. Not too small. Not too wide. Not too sparse. I think he is a natural.
Gavin did NOT want to pose for a picture. But, he was more than happy to take some. So, I got to be in a photo during our big day!
Once our tree was chopped, and tagged (Owen did the honors), the tractor and trailer came by to take it to the front of the farm.
It was on the hay ride back, that the Christmas spirit entered Gavin and he started having FUN! He loved all of the games they had for the kids while waiting for the tree to be cleaned, bagged, and paid for.
Last, we had the tree put on top of momma's car. We could have put it in Gerard's car, as we drove separately. But, that would be less exciting, right?
The tree is home and watered. The decorating will take place for the next week or so.
Cheers to a fun start to the Christmas season!!!
