Christmas Tree Farm Visit

This marked the start of a new Christmas tradition in the Quinlan home!  Last summer, I got tired of looking at the artificial trees that still weren't up in the attic from the Christmas before.  So, I donated them to a local charity (with the strong support of Pablo -- our summer guest who really loves to organize) and started looking forward to chopping down a fresh tree for our holiday!

There is a really nice tree farm situated between our home and the RV.  We spent some time at the RV this weekend and, on the way home, spent some time at the tree farm.

Gavers had fallen asleep in the car ... so he was slow to get in the spirit.  But, the rest of us were pretty excited.

First, we hopped aboard the hay ride....

Then, we snagged our saw, measuring stick, and tree-spotting eyes and went out on our search for the Quinlan Christmas Tree.
Liam wanted all of the small ones that were, I think, planted last year to replace all the trees chosen then.  Owen wanted a lot of the too big ones.  But, Gerard spotted the one that was just right.  Not too big.  Not too small.  Not too wide.  Not too sparse.  I think he is a natural.
Gavin did NOT want to pose for a picture.  But, he was more than happy to take some.  So, I got to be in a photo during our big day!
Once our tree was chopped, and tagged (Owen did the honors), the tractor and trailer came by to take it to the front of the farm.
It was on the hay ride back, that the Christmas spirit entered Gavin and he started having FUN!  He loved all of the games they had for the kids while waiting for the tree to be cleaned, bagged, and paid for.
Last, we had the tree put on top of momma's car.  We could have put it in Gerard's car, as we drove separately.  But, that would be less exciting, right?
The tree is home and watered.  The decorating will take place for the next week or so.

Cheers to a fun start to the Christmas season!!!

Gavin's 3rd Birthday Party

Gavin and Cole are turning three and they both love firetrucks.  Megan and I worked together to create a Stop, Drop, and Roll birthday party to remember!!  It was so fun and I think the boys had a BLAST!!
 The cupcake table...
 Bounce house fun!
 Cupcake glasses are so fun!!
 aren't they, Pa?
and then the fire truck came ... and as a bonus, the ambulance came, too!

The firemen thought that Gavin and Caroline were quite a cute couple!
Gavin and Cole at the wheel -- scary!!!
Megan and I hopped on the truck to try to get a cute picture through the windshield of the boys and ended up with a cute picture of ourselves!
hurry, hurry, drive that fire truck!
Oh my, Gavin looks so tall in this picture.
The ambulance was quite a hit...all the kids that wanted to got an EKG and their blood pressure taken.  What a FUN party activity.  Will have to remember this for the first over-the-hill party I am in charge of ;-)
The big kids snuck indoors to work on the Rainbow Loom.  Owen was taking orders faster than he could produce!
The birthday boys and Sweet Caroline!
Most of the party ... Liam didn't want in the picture.  Oh Liam.

Happy Birthday, Boys!  So glad we had Cole to blow out the candles -- Gavin was not interested.
He was, however, very interested in eating his red cupcake.
 Cute buddies!
 Present opening.
The birthday boy flanked by his big brothers!
Happy Birthday Party Day, Little Gavers!!!!

Saturday Sports

Started our day with a Titans soccer game.  Owen was team captain -- he picked tails and it was tails.  Great way to start the game for a 5 year old!!  LOL.  He played hard -- he scored one goal when he was playing forward and defended a few when he was sweeper.  He was hesitant and quite nervous to play today and ended up LOVING it.  So proud of him.

kicking the ball in with all his might.
Listening to Coach during half time.
Owen and his best buddy at school, Jake.
This afternoon, we had a Cubs game to watch.  Lots of hilarious plays during this game by the team.  But, all in all, a good game.  One of the most entertaining from the last couple of seasons for sure.

Gavin went over to tell Owen "good job."  Owen loved that since Gavin has been favoring Liam recently.
Garrison gave Owen a big ole bear hug after the game and Owen actually handed me his drink to hold so he could hug him back.  I was floored since Owen isn't usually one to hug his buddies.  Sweet friends.
Now we are watching the Aggies.  They were winning until we came home and turned on the tv.  I am tempted to turn it back off!!!

Fall Sports Started Saturday

Owen is the only Quinlan Boy playing on a team this fall and he is trying both soccer and baseball.  Liam decided instead of being on his own team, he would rather cheer for Owen at soccer and be the Bat Boy for the Cubs at baseball.  Gavin is still too young for his own team.  This keeps us plenty occupied on Saturdays -- can't imagine how busy we will be in a year or so....

Owen is playing soccer with the Titans!  First game on Saturday was quite exciting.  All the boys are new this year; but, did pretty well in their debut!  Owen is number 14 on both teams...enjoy the pictures!

Gavin cheering for his brothers during baseball!
The Bat Boy worked hard during the game!  Sweet boy ran full on to get every bat!

The too cute Bat Boy.
Owen got an award for "Defensive Player of the Week" -- he is showing off the sticker he got for his batting helmet!   The coaches will give two helmet stickers out each game and practice.  He was pumped to get one for his performance in the field yesterday!!
Here's to a busy fall, y'all!
